Bill's paintings in watercolours and oils over 40 years have covered a wide range of motifs. Early landscape work was followed by the influence of more urban environments. His first watercolour’s were in Tongariro National Park in the 1960’s. He was winner of various National Bank art awards in the 70's.
Bill's later paintings have included landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and portraits. A recurring theme has been of buildings in the landscape as a memory of those who have gone before us.
Although the motifs are from contemporary New Zealand-people, the buildings around them and the landscape-stylistically there are influences from his exposure to French impressionist works and early watercolours.
