Mark O'Brien has been drawing cartoons since he first picked up a pencil in the early 1960s. He created his MONSTA character for his school certificate art folio in 1976.
After studying business and economics in the early 80s, he set up MONSTA Mail Marketing, selling MONSTA T shirts and posters, drew live on children's TV, and penned a daily Monsta cartoon strip in the Auckland Star.
Through the 90's he travelled the world as cartoonist for the Whitbread round the world Yacht Race , and came back to Auckland to draw the America's Cup in 1999. He was Prada's team cartoonist in Valencia in 2007 , Alinghi's from 2008 to 2010 and has drawn for many sailing books websites and magazines.
When not drawing sailing events, Mark works on commission, drawing cartoons, characters and caricatures for clients in New Zealand and around the world.
